Gauteng Provincial Government signs MoU with Erongo Region, Namibia

The Gauteng Provincial Government on Tuesday, 24 October 2017 signed an MoU on mining, agriculture and food processing with the Erongo Region of Namibia.
The identified areas of cooperation include:

* Exploring of investment opportunities in manufacturing and assembly of mining equipment,
* Cooperation in mining exploration,
* Cooperation on capacity building on food production and human resource development and
* Cooperation on the field of tourism, fishing and agricultural activities.
The signing ceremony was attended by MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile and MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, Governor of the Erongo Region, Cleophas-Jens Mutjavikua amongst others.
South Africa and Namibia enjoy warm and fraternal relations that are characterised by regular and increasing interaction at all levels. These relations are historical and date back to the period of the fight against colonialism and apartheid.
The economy of Namibia is closely linked to South Africa in terms of trade. South Africa’s main exports to Namibia consist of vehicles, machinery, pharmaceuticals, processed food, clothes, cement, petroleum, and iron and steel. Namibia’s main exports to South Africa include beverages, livestock, meat products, fish and minerals.
Premier David Makhura subsequently led a delegation to attend the Invest in Namibia International conference which took place on 10 November 2016 where some of the possible areas of cooperation between Gauteng and Erongo Region were identified.
The signing of the MoU is the culmination of these engagements.
The MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile will visit Namibia next week to discuss the implementation of the MoU.
The Namibian delegation is also in the country to attend the South Africa-Italy which is currently under way at the Hyatt Regency, Rosebank, Johannesburg.
