Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will on Friday, 08 December 2023, unveil the Wall of Remembrance to honour the health workers who tragically lost their lives during the Boksburg gas tanker explosion near Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The explosion, which occurred on the 24th of December 2022, had a devastating impact on the Accident and Emergency Unit (A&E), Radiology Unit, and various other sections of Tambo Memorial Hospital. As a result, 12 staff members (11 nurses and 1 driver) sadly demised. Ten of these dedicated individuals were employed by the Gauteng Department of Health, while 2 were employed by an agency but stationed at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The unveiling of the Wall of Remembrance serves as a solemn tribute to these selfless public servants who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The ceremony will be attended by staff members, the families of the fallen heroes, hospital management, and other stakeholders.
