The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will tomorrow, Thursday, 24 August 2023 participate in Women’s Month commemorative events across the province as women from all walks of life take centre stage in tackling social issues confronting society.
In collaboration with the Women In Health initiative, the MEC will be taking health services to the doorstep of communities, particularly women at Ratanda Hostel in Heidelberg as part of the Gauteng Department of Health’s #AsibeHealthyGP campaign. The female-led programme will see gynaecological services such as pap smear, family planning and mammograms amongst others being offered to women.
MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko will then attend the Prayer Day for Social Cohesion and Nation Building to deliberate on societal issues which include crime, alcohol, drug abuse and teenage pregnancy amongst others. This is hosted by the Gauteng Faith Based Organisations (FBO) and the Zodwa Zwane Foundation together with the MEC as the convener of FBOs in the province.
The MEC will then join the Charlotte Maxeke Foundation at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital through the screening of a documentary about Charlotte Maxeke as a way to glean lessons from her life that can be applied to address today’s challenges.
