Media Statement - Health Services continue as normal following Zola Substation fire - 12 June 2024.pdf

Department of Health Department of Health 2024/06/11 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Health would like to inform residents of Soweto that due to a fire that broke out at the Zola substation earlier this morning, affecting electricity supply to various areas, a few of our facilities are operating on generators.

Services are continuing as normal at Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital, Tladi and Zola Gateway clinics which are currently running generators.

Contractors are on site doing an assessment at Zola Community Health Centre after the generator there packed up. In the meantime, services from this clinic are diverted to nearby facilities, namely Mofolo Community Health Center and Chiawelo Community Health Center.

Eskom on its X account said it was unable to give the time to restore power supply and that once the fire is extinguished its technicians will conduct an investigation to assess the extent of the damage and how long it will take to repair the substation.

The Department is closely monitoring the situation. At this stage services are continuing as per normal.
