​The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko together with the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Wits, Prof Zebulon Vilakazi, will on Monday, 26 August 2024, officially open the new wing extension of the Wits Roy McAlpine Burns Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH). 

Annually, over 700 patients including adults and children with severe burns are admitted at the unit for critical care. The opening of the new wing will increase the Unit’s capacity and further advance research to enhance the science and treatment of burns. 

Burns are the most severe forms of trauma requiring immediate emergency medical care in a dedicated unit which is crucial for the best possible outcomes for victims.
