The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport in partnership with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will tomorrow, Tuesday 31 August 2021, announce new measures to address the drivers’ licence renewal backlog.

This follows the announcement by National Department of Transport to extend the validity of expired drivers’ licence cards, learners’ licences and professional driving permit until 31 March 2022.

The Department and RTMC have, over the COVID-19 period, been working on measures to make booking slots for renewal efficient and easily accessible to motorists.

Introducing interventions to address inefficiencies in the system, MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure will unveil to the public a strategy to overcome these and address the backlog.
