MEC NKOMO-RALEHOKO VISITS JUBILEE HOSPITAL DUE TO CONCERN IN RECENT OUTBREAK OF DIARRHOEAL DISEASE.pdf

​The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will tomorrow, Sunday, 21 May 2023 visit Jubilee District Hospital in Hammanskraal after the recent outbreak of diarrhoeal disease cases in the area. 

The MEC is visiting the hospital after expressing concern with the number of people presenting with the disease. Since Monday, 15 May 2023 to date, 67 people from Kanana, Suurman, Majaneng and Green Field in Hammanskraal have presented at the hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps and vomiting which unfortunately led to seven of them passing away. 

The provincial and district outbreak response teams were today dispatched to Jubilee Hospital and the affected areas to further investigate the source of the diarrhoeal disease and to raise awareness among communities. Already, stool specimen has been collected from some of the affected people. The results are expected from the laboratory during the course of the weekend. 

The Outbreak Response Teams remain on high alert with advocacy and education work continuing especially targeting the immediately affected areas.
