As part of initiatives to promote healthy and active lifestyle among healthcare professionals and staff members, the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko, will officially reopen the newly refurbished Wellness Centre and Staff Gym at Edenvale Regional Hospital on Wednesday, 15 May 2024.

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) recognises that the physical and mental well-being of employees is of paramount importance and has made a commitment to build wellness centres at healthcare facilities to encourage and support staff members in leading an active and balanced lifestyle and ultimately improve their overall well-being.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), physical inactivity is a key risk factor for noncommunicable diseases and the fourth leading cause of early death globally. In a response to this, the GDoH launched the Wellness Wednesdays and the #AsibeHealthy campaign to promote positive health outcomes by encouraging healthy lifestyles and literacy in the province.

“Health is not merely the absence of illness, but the vitality to live life to its fullest. Through promoting active lifestyles and providing wellness centers, we empower our healthcare professionals to lead by example, nurturing their physical and mental well-being," stated MEC Nkomo Ralehoko.

Members of the media are invited to attend the relaunch event as follows: Date: Wednesday, 15 May 2024

Time: 09h00
