Media Statement - Kalafong Hospital plagued by intermittent water supply interruption affecting services 30 October 2024.pdf

Department of Health Department of Health 2024/10/29 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Health wishes to inform the public that Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital (KPTH) continues to experience an ongoing water supply disruptions owing to supply challenges experienced by the City of Tshwane (CoT).

KPTH has been experiencing an unstable water supply since the middle of last week. The facility’s borehole can only supply the low-lying areas. The CoT has been providing the hospital with water tankers on a daily basis, however, these, together with the borehole is still insufficient to enable optimal patient care at the hospital.

Due to the water shortage, outpatient appointments are being rescheduled, and elective procedures are limited until further notice. Emergency and maternity cases will be diverted to nearby facilities, and the public is advised to seek non-emergency care at alternative healthcare facilities.

The Gauteng Department of Health apologises for the inconvenience caused and remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
