​The Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla and Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will on Sunday, 12 May 2024, join nurses to commemorate International Nurses Day at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. 

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12 May in memory of the birth of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale. This year the day will be observed under the theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care” – which seeks to raise awareness about the challenges facing nurses as the backbone of healthcare. 

The commemorative event aims to honour and appreciate the significant contributions made by nurses in serving patients with warmth, compassion, and empathy.
