Public Transport Arbitration Office: Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has established the Gauteng Public Transport Arbitration Office to handle and resolve any disputes the minibus taxi industry operators may have.

Headed by retired Judge Jeremiah Shongwe, the Arbitration Office is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism within the public transport industry in the province.

Public Transport Arbitration Office is an independent, impartial and easily accessible - offers a free service to public transport service operators. It provides a quicker, less expensive platform but also delivers binding decisions on all parties.

With its establishment, the Provincial Government hopes there is no more basis for violence, disruptions and instability that negatively affect movement and lives of commuters in the Province.

It is part of the recommendations of Provincial Commission of Inquiry into Taxi Violence held in 2019.
