Department of Roads and Transport 2025/02/23 - 23:00
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDRT) is inviting comments on the Draft Integrated Transport Master Plan 25 (ITMP25).
GDRT developed the initial ITMP25 for the province in 2013. This mapped out key transport projects and plans to be rolled out over the next 25 years until 2037. In addition to the 2013 ITMP25, the Department developed a 5-Year Gauteng Transport Implementation Plan (GTIP5).
In 2023, the Transport Authority of Gauteng (TAG) and the Department commenced with the review, preparation and update of the ITMP25, which also includes preparation of an interim GTIP5.
The ITMP25 for Gauteng is an important strategic document which will enable the GDRT to regulate, plan and develop an efficient and well-integrated transport system that serves public interest by enhancing mobility and delivering safe, secure and environmentally sustainable air, rail and road-based public and private transport services.
The core objective of the ITMP25 is to guide the Gauteng Province towards a world-class, sustainable transport system that supports it’s economic, social, cultural and environmental goals.
Stakeholders and key role players must be consulted in developing the ITMP25. The Promotion of Administrative Justice Act 3 of 2000 (PAJA) provides that persons whose rights may be adversely affected must be consulted when government takes administrative action, which includes transport planning, either by a notice and comment procedure or by public hearings.
