The Gauteng Provincial Government has handed over title deeds and houses to eligible beneficiaries at the Afri-Village Development Project at Rand West District Municipality.

Over 800 title deeds and 144 houses were handed over by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura and MEC for Human Settlements, Lebogang Maile on Thursday, 18 August 2022.

Unveiled in 2019 the Afri-Village development project has yielded more than 2100 housing units and is ready for full occupation.

"In 2019 we handed over 100 houses and we are back again three years later to allocate additional houses. Development is continuing in this area, and we are now at 2172 houses.

"The project will include bonded houses. In total, there will be 10 000 houses in this area. We are also building a taxi rank to make sure this is a proper settlement. We want to also have sporting facilities here for your children."

The Premier said the area must also have primary and high schools and Early Childhood Development centres.

Makhura said there is also a need for a shopping centre. The provincial government will approach the private sector in this regard.

The handover forms part of the Ntirhisano Outreach programme and will be followed by a meeting with SMMEs hosted by Premier Makhura, joined by Mogale City Mayor Tyrone Gray.

The outreach programme will also include engagements with women and people living with disabilities, road openings, school visits, health screenings, and a road opening.
