Gauteng MEC for e-Government, Bonginkosi Dlamini, in partnership with Vumacam, celebrated the achievements of his first 100 days in office, showcasing the impact of technology-led initiatives on crime reduction across the province. The event, held at 45 Commissioner Street in Johannesburg, included a visit to the state-of-the-art network control room, where attendees experienced firsthand the innovative surveillance technology that has become central to Gauteng's crime prevention efforts.

Since the launch of the partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government and Vumacam, real-time monitoring and advanced AI capabilities have significantly boosted crime-fighting efforts in the province. With enhanced surveillance and data-driven insights, law enforcement has achieved remarkable results, including increased interception rates, quicker response times, and the prevention of crimes before escalation. Over recent months, the initiative has contributed to a 30% month-on-month improvement in crime interception rates, facilitating numerous successful arrests.

MEC Bonginkosi Dlamini emphasised the importance of this partnership for Gauteng's security. "As a government, we are committed to the ongoing overall modernisation of the public sector, and to ensuring the efficient delivery of services to all residents of Gauteng. Our collaboration with Vumacam reflects our dedication to embracing advanced technologies to support law enforcement in creating secure communities. In just a short time, the impact of real-time surveillance has been profound, leading to quicker police response times and helping to intercept crimes before they occur. This is just the beginning, and we are eager to continue using smart city solutions to enhance public safety in the months ahead."

Michael Varney, Chief Commercial Officer at Vumacam, spoke about the potential of AI-driven crime prevention. "Our collaboration with the Gauteng Provincial Government has shown what is possible when powerful technology and public safety initiatives come together. We are proud of the progress we've achieved with MEC Dlamini's support and are committed to expanding these capabilities to make Gauteng one of the safest provinces in the country."

With hundreds of cameras strategically positioned across high-risk areas and a dedicated control room staffed around the clock, the partnership between Vumacam and the Gauteng Provincial Government demonstrates a scalable model for crime prevention in South Africa.
