Gauteng Premier, David Makhura has expressed satisfaction that the 2020 matric exams started on a good note.
Premier Makhura congratulated learners, educators and staff for the success of the start of the National certificate examination on Thursday, 5 November 2020.
"The first day of examination was administered with a high degree of integrity and credibility. All question papers were collected on time from the district offices and distribution points," said Makhura.
Gauteng government has made provision for learners who have test positive for COVID-19 to continue with their exams in isolated venues managed by the Department of Health.
In addition, the year 2021 placement period of grades 1 and 8 which commenced on 1 October is scheduled to close on 30 November 2020.
"As at 3 November 2020, a total of 144 301 Grade 1and 8 applicants have been placed in schools across the province. This translates to 64 % of learners placed to date.
"Placement is prioritised based on the home address closest to the school within the school feeder zone, pending availability of space," Makhura said.
Parents are encouraged to regularly login to the system to check for placement offers. Offers must be accepted within seven days.
