​The newly refurbished Paediatric Waiting Area at Tambo Memorial Hospital is set to improve patient experience of care and create a welcoming environment for both paediatrics (children), their mothers and families who come to visit. 
The upgraded space features child friendly elements including an area for breastfeeding mothers to ensure comfort and support during their visits. 
The space will contribute towards a more positive healthcare experience as it caters for both physical and emotional needs of patients, ultimately enhancing the overall patient experience of care.
Tibatso Molopa, a mother who was visiting her child who is admitted at the hospital's Paediatric Ward expressed her admiration for the recently renovated area of the ward. With her frequent visits to the ward, she was pleasantly astonished by the new look of the ward, describing the space as calming. 
"The colour scheme and design of the new area creates a calming environment, and a brief escape from the stress of having a sick child. The chairs are comfortable and not only provide improved physical comfort but will also encourage meaningful conversations among us as mothers, fostering a sense of community and support," said Molopa. 
This refurbishment is a significant advancement in cultivating a more supportive and responsive healthcare environment to mothers, guardians, caregivers and their children. It is part of the Gauteng Department of Health's continuous efforts to improve infrastructure in healthcare facilities.
Zenzo Ndabula, the CEO of the hospital said that the project is in line with the National Health Insurance that seeks to ensure access to quality healthcare services. 
"This newly renovated waiting area demonstrates our dedication to improving patient experience of care and ultimately make a significant impact on our community," said Ndabula.
The renovations are made possible by the charitable contribution of the Republic of Mozambique's Pipeline Investments Company.
