The final countdown has begun with just two days left before the Class of 2021 write their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.
From 27 October, a total of 897 786 candidates will sit for the exams which will end on 7 December 2021.
Gauteng has enrolled 175 599 candidates to write this year's matric exams. This is an increase of 17.55% from 2020.
The Department Basic of Education says it is ready to administer a credible examination and is geared to accommodate any change that may be warranted.
"The Department of Basic Education has learnt valuable lessons from the previous examinations and is therefore more confident in administering this examination. 
"Candidates that demonstrate COVID-19 symptoms as well as candidates that test positive will be allowed to write their examination at special isolation venues that have been arranged," said Minister Angie Motshekga on Monday.
Quality Assurance Council, Umalusi has given the exams a green light adding that the class of 2021 will be subjected to the same high-quality examination as previous cohorts.
The Department has urged South Africans to rally behind the class of 2021.
Parents are requested to be extra vigilant to ensure that learners do not resort to engaging in any activity relating to examination irregularities as signed in the Commitment Agreement.
"The Department is fully aware that the majority of our learners are honest and will comply with these rules so that we eradicate any irregular practice that may rear its head in this examination.
This makes the Class of 2021 the highest enrolment number ever of candidates to sit for the National Senior Certificate examinations in the province.
