To broaden the reach and access to COVID-19 vaccination programme, as part of the efforts to lessen the impact of the expected fourth wave later this year, the Gauteng Provincial Government activates new sites on a weekly basis. One of the newest sites that has been activated recently is the Pretoria West District Hospital.

Excited about the accreditation as COVID-19 vaccination site, acting hospital CEO, Lillian Madiba said: "We are planning to do outreach in the farms, taxi ranks, schools as well as filling stations so that we can have more of our community members being vaccinated.  We also encouraging our internal staff to take the vaccine to save our nation."

She added that they have been waiting for this opportunity as the community has been requesting a vaccination site close-by.

"The community we serve comes mostly from informal settlements where transport is a serious challenge. When we refer them to other institution they became reluctant and respond by saying they will wait until their hospital is giving vaccine," said the acting CEO.
