No man is an island, as human beings we need one another, Social Workers like any other being need each other. That’s according to Director: Stakeholder Relations, Mr Frans Rammutla.

He said this while addressing Social Workers during World Social Work Day celebration at Silver Star Casino on Monday. The celebrations were held under the theme: promoting the importance of human relations. Rammutla said the relationships Social Workers have with community is amazing and the difference they make is out of this world. “Relationships need to be good on all levels, because once they are, then social workers can better connect with families. This is the reason we celebrate this profession”, Rammutla said.

He outlined interventions agreed upon amongst Social Workers during 2019 celebratory event. The following interventions were recommended to improve social work service to the public:

·         Group work should be done from an intake level,

·         Available social workers should immediately assist clients who have arrived to seek assistance,

·         Private screening rooms should be available for social workers to use,

·         Social workers should be consulted when new offices are procured,

·         Should be given lockable filing cabinets so that files can be kept confidential,

·         Social workers should be given induction after they are appointed,

·         A clear system of referral is needed (and governmental and NGO social workers need to know one another so that correct referrals can be made),

·         Staff involved in unethical conduct should be reported to the Council,

·         Social workers involved in sexual relationships should be moved to other units and offices.

In March 1963, National Association of Social Workers (NASW) introduced National Professional Social Work Month and the 19th of March was declared World Social Work Day which is celebrated annually.
