Premier David Makhura together with MEC for Health Dr Bandile Masuku today visited the Diepsloot screening and testing site.

The visit forms part of the provincial government's aggressive screening and testing programme to reach as many people as possible.

The visit started at the warehouse, where the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stock is kept. More than 12 000 people have been screened and over 1000 people have been tested.

Premier Makhura urged the community of Diepsloot to continue practicing safe measures including social distancing and wearing of cloth face masks when leaving home.

"We want the people of Diepsloot to continue to undertake safety measures, when you leave your home, going anywhere you must have your cloth mask on, we know that this is a high density place, but we urge you to practice social distancing as those measures can save a lot of lives," he said.

Premier Makhura also warned the citizens that the road ahead was still long.

"We must not be complacent we are still going into the winter season, we know that flu is worse in winter and we understand that COVID-19 virus has flu like symptoms, we are therefore required to take all these precocious steps in winter," he said.

Premier also commended the community for coming out to do the tests and get vaccinated for flu.

The visit follows a health worker testing positive for COVID-19 in the area, 40 contacts have been traced and were tested negative, the nurse is currently in isolation.
