The Gauteng Provincial Government commends residents who heeded the call to be vaccinated against COVID-19 during the first Vooma Vaccination Weekend.

The inclusive national campaign mobilised unvaccinated South Africans and people living in South Africa to get the jab.

As part of the campaign, a total of 150 vaccination sites were open in the province, with longer operational hours.

Nationally, more than 350 000 people seized this opportunity.

Speaking at the Zwartkops Raceway in Centurion, Premier David Makhura congratulated volunteers, at the vaccination site, for administering 25 000 vaccines in 42 days.

"We applaud our healthcare workers who continue to go the extra mile to keep our nation and her people safe," said Makhura.

As at 3 October, 4 707 776 vaccinations have been administered and 2 190 145 people have been fully vaccinated in Gauteng.

Gauteng Province has made the vaccination process simple and easier for all eligible people to get the jab at various sites such as mobile pop-up sites, taxi ranks, pharmacies, and workplaces.

Excited Martha Mojela from Soshanguve received her second COVID-19 jab at Soshanguve Block X Sports Ground at the weekend.

"I feel free even when I'm walking around because I have been vaccinated. This is the best thing to do, it saves life, families and anyone living in the country," said Martha.

The Gauteng province has also embarked on a 14-week drive targeting areas with low vaccine uptake.
