“Don’t destroy your future because of a festive season” says former Moja Love presenter and drug burster Xolani Khumalo.
Khumalo was speaking yesterday to the youth especially those who take part in social gatherings such as pen’s down, during the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) Festive Season Substance Abuse Prevention Program at Sebothoma Community Hall, in Hammanskraal, Tshwane.

His warning comes after learners, particularly those that are doing matric, finished their exams last week. Khumalo said, “The festive season is a very critical time of the year, especially for young people. Please take care of yourselves and don’t risk your lives. Don’t destroy your future because of the festive season but stay focused and never lose sight of your future aspirations”.

Khumalo said, “The world has changed now. People don’t pray for safety and prosperity anymore, but they pray for the end of drug abuse and substance users”.

He said that the substance abuse awareness program is educational and informative, “So let’s continue fighting drugs and making informed decisions about our future”.

Local substance user in recovery Lebohang Kekana said, “I have managed to survive drugs after abusing them for 18 years and was able to quit through the grace of God. Drugs take no one anywhere except to eventuality which is death”.

To the youth in attendance, 38-year-old Kekana said, “You can enjoy life without drug use and alcohol. Refrain from keeping bad company because of peer pressure”.

The Ke Moja, I’m fine without drugs (Anti-Substance Abuse) program gives effect to the implementation of the National Drug Master Plannd the Gauteng City Region (GCR) Anti-Substance Abuse Strategy to reduce demand for drugs harm caused by drugs and supply of drugs in communities.

Substance abuse is an elevated priority program as pronounced by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi last year.
