On the 4 of August 2025, the Traffic Directorate in the Eastern Corridor commemorated Women's Day with an event held in Tembisa under the theme: "Empowering Progress: Innovation, Inclusion and Women's Month Inspiration."
The event was organised by Senior Provincial Inspector Nkateko Mkhabele for the Gauteng Traffic Wardens deployed in Norkem Park and Olifantsfontein policing precinct to honour the brave heroines who fought against the apartheid-era pass laws, while also aiming to motivate and uplift young women and men within the Corridor. It was a celebration of women's tireless contributions in the workplace.
The programme commenced with Programme Director GTW Sindisile Morwane, who invited the departmental Chaplain Mapula Nkoe to open the event with a prayer, invoking the presence of the Lord.
Mr Tshedza Khorombi, representing the Employee Health and Wellness Service, addressed critical issues including Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), substance abuse, and alcoholism. He emphasized the importance of seeking support when facing personal challenges, encouraging staff to make use of wellness services and to communicate openly with their superiors when experiencing difficulties in the workplace.
Labour Relations representative Mr Duke Nyathi followed with an informative engagement on labour-related matters such as sexual harassment, disciplinary procedures, misconduct, and corruption. He also outlined the legal frameworks guiding the work of Gauteng Traffic Wardens and provided guidance on the proper procedures for lodging grievances in the workspace.
Motivational speakers Ms Hellen Sefume from Hensoldt GWE and Ms Serei Nelwamondo from Tshwane University of Technology delivered very empowering messages. Ms Sefume reminded attendees that it is never too late to pursue the life one envisions and that current circumstances do not define one's future. Ms Nelwamondo encouraged Traffic Wardens to remain diligent in their work, assuring them that such commitment does not go unnoticed. She urged all attendees to reclaim their power, practice self-love, and ensure their emotional wellbeing is prioritised.
As part of the celebrations, Deputy Director Busaphi Nxumalo and Acting Chief Provincial Inspector Themba Ncala presented surprise gifts to four high-performing female Gauteng Traffic Wardens, as a token of appreciation from management of the Eastern Corridor for their exceptional dedication and service. The officials were GTW Tsakani Mabasa, GTW Yvonne Manyike, GTW Sindile Morwane and Precious Mtarini
The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks delivered by Principal Provincial Inspector Nomphithi Mtshali, who expressed gratitude to all guest speakers for their inspiring contributions, and to all attendees and officials for their presences and participation.
