Former JW Luckhoff Child and Youth Care Centre resident Kgomotso Rammala calls on families and members of the public to support children who stay in care centres. He said those children, just like him, who find themselves growing up in government facilities need more support and proper guidance for them to prosper in life.

The 26-year-old was speaking during the family open day held at JW Luckhoff CYCC last Saturday. He told the children that are currently living at the centre that he is a proud product of JW Luckhoff CYCC. He went further to encourage children to respect Care Workers and focus on their studies. He cautioned against being naughty and mischievous, as this will never take them anywhere.

Rammala, who is originally from Limpopo, expressed his gratitude to the Care Workers and the entire staff of the centre.

He said he would not be where he is today if it was not of their unconditional love, care, and support.

“When I see some of my former Care Workers who used to look after me when I was still at the centre I become emotional because these people are the reason I am where I am today, they had faith in me when no one wanted to associate with me, they molded me and gave me a second chance, and I will forever be grateful for what they did to me”, he said.

He said he used to abscond from the centre, but they never give up on him, they continued to support him until he matriculated in 2016.

After completing his Grade 12, Rammala enrolled to study Mechanical Engineering at Capricorn TVET College where he only managed to finish N1 and N2 because of financial constraints.

“I have always been fascinated by vehicles and wanted to become an engineering hence I tried to study Mechanical Engineering, I also registered an engineering company immediately after completing my grade 12 in 2016, I have been trying to get bursaries with no luck but if anyone can help, I would to go back and finish my engineering”, he said

Since he left Luckhoff in December 2016, Rammala also went to start his own Rammala Internet Café back in Limpopo, which is still operating, and he has employed one person.

Earlier this year he came back to Gauteng, and he is currently working in a construction company. He has since been leaving independently.
