Gauteng MEC for
Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo unveiled a state of
the art Kudube/Morokolong pedestrian bridge in Hammanskraal, City of Tshwane on
Wednesday, 24 June 2020. 
The R2.4
million, 150-meter suspension bridge brings much-needed relief to the community
as it facilitates easy access various services. It is also expected to serve
both social and economic infrastructure role for the community, providing
opportunities to bring the cultural and tourism dimension to the area and
attract further investments.
The bridge’s
construction commenced in early January as its condition was deteriorating and
completed end of May 2020.
MEC Mamabolo
was joined by Tshwane Administrators - Mpho Nawa, Gilberto Martins, Cllr
Solomon Cebele and community representatives. He stressed that the delivery of
the bridge at the right quality, within time and cost effective sets the tone
for other transport infrastructure on the Department’s project pipeline.
Delivering the
bridge is part of the Department’s strategy to position the “City Region of
Smart Mobility” where people and goods move efficiently. 
“As government,
we should look at how to optimize the bridge precinct to turn this into a
tourism area supported by existing infrastructure in the area” said Mamabolo.
“The delivery
of the bridge also sets the standard for the Gauteng Transport Infrastructure
House as the heartbeat of transport infrastructure to be formally unveiled to
the industry in Mid-July. We will be unveiling the Transport Infrastructure
Book which contains the entire project portfolio of the Department” explained
the MEC. 
This is part of
Department’s work to strengthen its internal capacity to deliver adequate
transport infrastructure to support economic growth.
City
administrator Mpho Nawa expressed gratitude to the Gauteng Provincial
Government for creating a bridge that connect the two communities Kudube and
Morokolong.

“I call upon our people not to destroy their
properties, it must be marked as a park and turned to a place of recreation” Mr
Nawa said.
