MEC Maile congratulates new mayors- 24 November 2021

The MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA, Lebogang Maile, has congratulated the municipalities in the Province of Gauteng for successfully holding their inaugural council meetings.

Following the local government elections held on 1 November 2021, Dr Mpho Phalatse has been voted as the new City of Johannesburg mayor while Tania Campbell has been elected Ekurhuleni mayor.

Randall Williams and Tyrone Gray were elected as mayors for the City of Tshwane and as Mogale City respectively. 

MEC Maile has also extended congratulations to the newly elected saying he looks forward to working with all of them.

"We look forward to having an audience with the new Mayors to reaffirm the commitment of the Gauteng Provincial Government to support municipalities during this new term of local government.

"It is now more than ever important that we work together to ensure that the people of Gauteng receive quality basic services."

Maile went on to commend all the unsuccessful candidates who raised their hands and contested the positions saying their graciousness in accepting the outcome of the elections has not gone unnoticed.

"This peaceful transition of power is a testimony of our maturing and vibrant democracy."
