Sections of the Carletonville Hospital have undergone refurbishments to improve service delivery and patient experience of care for the communities of Merafong Local Municipality.

MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko visited the facility on Thursday, 16 May 2024 to monitor the progress on several key projects and refurbishments undertaken to improve the performance of the hospital.

One of the major refurbishments that have been undertaken at the hospital include the roofing which has been repaired and waterproofed, allowing for the previously closed areas due to leakages being reopened and improving the capacity of the facility.

A new 800kva generator has also been installed at the facility to ensure uninterrupted service delivery even during power outages in the area. This is in addition to a full upgrade of the Eskom transformers at the hospital.

MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko said that the refurbishments are a testament of government's commitment to improve public health facilities by ensuring that infrastructure is maintained while plans to build new facilities are on the way.

"We have committed to ensuring that our public health facilities in the province do not get dilapidated under our watch. Our infrastructure unit has been hard at work maintaining and upgrading the health facilities, whether its painting, ceiling, flooring or new medical equipment, we are ensuring that our facilities are conducive for both patients and our dedicated staff," said the MEC.

In addition, the hospital has completed the renovation and repairs to all its doctors accommodation. This includes buildings which were previously burnt and abandoned outside the facility. The added buildings will ensure the accommodation of community service doctors and interns.

Carletonville Hospital is also in the process of completing the refurbishments of a helipad, which will allow for patients to be airlifted to the facility in cases of motor vehicle accidents and other incidents that require urgent transportation. The hospital's Accident and Emergency will also greatly benefit from this service.
