The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has activated psycho-support services at Rivoni Secondary School on Wednesday, 9 October 2024.

This follows the passing of Deputy Principal, who was fatally shot at Chris Hani Mall on Tuesday, 08 October 2024, while attending a meeting related to a colleague's case.

MEC Chiloane extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and the school.

"We are heartbroken by this senseless killing of our dedicated educator and leader in our education community. Our deepest sympathies are with loved ones during this challenging time," said MEC Chiloane.

The police have launched an investigation into the shooting. According to Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Mavela Masondo, the Deputy Principal had left the school in his vehicle and collected a passenger at the gate.

"Police are looking for the passenger who might assist in the investigation, and the motive for the killing could not be confirmed at this stage," said Masondo.

The department has activated psycho-support services to help those impacted by this tragedy, including the learners and staff.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to call their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
