Gauteng Provincial Government has intensified contact tracing, screening and testing teams in communities to meet the current demand in the rise of COVID-19 infection.
The government has also improved law enforcement to ensure compliance to COVID-19 protocols in business premises, gatherings, public transport facilities, and schools.
This comes at a time when the province continues to record an increase in new infections. Gauteng is currently the epicentre of the third wave, accounting for more than 60% of the nation's cases.
Speaking at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital on Monday,21 June, Premier David Makhura said government alone cannot win the fight against the virus, there should be co-operation from residents.
“The restaurants and shebeens are always full, if we can slow down for at least two weeks, it can help in the fight against the spread of the virus,” said Premier Makhura
Premier appealed to people to limit gatherings, whether for family, friends, business or recreation.
All districts have activated resurgence plans to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 third wave.
