Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on Monday, 28 July reopened the Oncology unit after the fire damage which took place in April.
The reopening of the unit will ease the pressure at other hospitals as patients were forced to go to other hospitals for check-ups.
The hospital's CEO, Gladys Bogoshi said the hospital is only opened for radiation oncology at the moment.
Bogoshi said patients should wait to be called before coming to the hospital and will be called on an appointment basis.
"Patients should wait to be called before coming to the hospital, they will get a call from doctors, nurses or clerks. They will be told on which date to come. All other patients should continue to collect medication where they wee collecting them," said CEO Bogosi.
One of the patients who were treated on Monday, Mr Godfrey Davids, could not contain his excitement as he was one of the first thirteen patients to be attended to.
"I got a call last Friday to say I have to be here on Monday, I was so excited as I was always waiting for this day to come," said Mr Davids.
Mr Davids said the fire was unfortunate as he was due for a check-up a week after the fire broke out.
Head of the Radiation Oncology unit at the hospital, Dr Duvern Ramiah, said on a typical day, the unit sees about 160 patients, but once the treatment has stabilised, they would call more patients for treatment in the next couple of weeks.
