Health, human settlements, the fight against crime, and quality education remain apex priorities of the Gauteng Provincial Government.
The Social and Governance Cluster MECs say the 2022/23 financial year budgets will be used to ensure the implementation of radical socio-economic transformation policies and programmes that promote cohesive communities. 
Community Safety, MEC Faith Mazibuko says the cluster, made up of the Departments of Education, Social Development, Community Safety, Health, Sport, Arts, Culture (SACR), and Human Settlements , is the hidden engine of economic growth. 
Speaking at a post-budget vote media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday, Mazibuko said her department has been allocated an amount of R1.153 billion to support the relentless efforts of building safer communities. Mazibuko said the budget will strengthen police oversight, traffic law enforcement, implementation of national action against gender-based violence, and mobilising communities to take charge against crime.
The Department of Education's R59.7-billion is mostly dedicated to the migration of Early Childhood Development (ECD) from the Department of Social Development. 
MEC Lesufi said this was an achievement to make sure that children are given the necessary support from Grade R until they start Grade 1. 
With a total budget of R59.4 billion and a further R178.2 billion over the 2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), the Department of Health will ensure stability and improve the quality and overall coverage of health services for the people of Gauteng.
MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi said the department was piloting the Gauteng Scheduled Emergency Transport (G-SET) across all districts to reduce and improve patient waiting times during referrals between health facilities.
Social Development MEC, Morokane Mosupyoe said the current financial year budget of R5.537 billion is aimed at intensifying support and empowering non-profit organisations (NPOs) as they are at the heart of fighting hunger and poverty and care for vulnerable children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
