The national Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula has
considered Minister of Social Development Ms Lindiwe Zulu’s request and industry
bodies’ representations to amend the Public Transport Directions in order to
accommodate grant beneficiaries.
With effect from Monday, 30 March until 03 April 2020,
busses and minibus taxis will be permitted to operate from 05h00 until 20h00, uninterrupted,
in order to cater for the transportation needs of social grant beneficiaries. Outside
of this period, busses and minibus taxis could only operate between 05h00 and
09h00 and between 16h00 until 20h00.
Social distancing by all using public transport must be observed
and enforced.
To assist law enforcement efforts, grant beneficiaries are
required to carry along their ID copies and SASSA cards when travelling.
