The Department of Social Development has put in place guidelines on food donations to ensure proper coordination when distributing food parcels during the period of lockdown.

Acting MEC for Social Development, Panyaza Lesufi said the guidelines would assist in service delivery and in avoiding duplication in some instances.

"This system will ensure that we can all work together efficiently and effectively. We recognise that we are faced with a crisis and everyone wants to assist, however, if this process is not managed properly, it can hamper all our efforts. If we all do our part this will also ensure that we all adhere to the regulations and we can also improve our services and avoid duplications", said MEC Lesufi

Those who want to make donations should submit the name of the business, company or organization, address and contact numbers of the company donating.

They should also include details of donation contents, date and time of delivery including the content of the food relief and quantities donated.

The applications should be submitted to the department in no less than 48 hours before the envisaged distribution date.

Food relief must preferably be delivered to individual households not cooked meals.

Donors must take full responsibility and accountability for the quality of food distributed (compliance to health and environmental safety standards) and well as any other risk involved.

In addition, the department is facilitating and receiving donations and requests that all donations must be delivered at 30 Mandy Road, Booysens (City of Johannesburg).
