Department of Roads and Transport 2021/08/19 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is planning to increase the number of its driver licensing and testing centres in the province to meet demand.

MEC Jacob Mamabolo has announced that the province is committing to the introduction of new generation licensing centres employing new forms of technology, new faster methods. He indicated that the process is at an advanced stage, awaiting gazetting by Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and Gautrain Management Agency (GMA). Possible launch is expected during October or November.

He further said that it is not yet clear whether the end of August deadline for motorists who have not been able to renew their licences will be extended. The Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to make the announcement.

The province has forty licensing centres largely run by the municipalities with only six managed by the Department.

New centres are expected to assist in dealing and meeting the demands of motorists coming to existing centres to apply and renew their driver's licenses.
