Children at Walter Sisulu Place of Safety in Noordgesig, Soweto could not wait to go back to school to meet new friends.
There was also excitement the grades one who will be wearing school uniform and carrying school bags for the first time.
According to Talita Filmer a Social Worker at the centre said currently they have 23 children who are between Grade1 and 10 who are going to school.
"There are 21 infants and toddlers that will be attending creche. Like in any household there is a spirit of happiness to our children, especially the one that are going to school for the first time as this will give them an opportunity to play and interact with other children. "said Filmer.
Anxious about coronavirus she said they encourage learners to always keep their masks, sanitize and always keep social distance.
The centre will continue to adhere to covid-19 protocols, including regular temperature checking.
