Heath Minster, Zweli Mkhize says there is a decreasing rate of new confirmed cases of Covid-19 but has warned South Africans to continue being vigilant to avoid a second wave of Covid-19 infection.

South Africa moved to Alert Level 2 of the national lockdown on 17 August 2020 and opened the economy and allowed more activities.

Minister said there was no way of ensuring zero risk of infection but advised residents that they could reduce the risk by following the guidelines from national department of Health.

" In general, the more people you interact with, the more closely you interact with them, and the longer that interaction, the higher your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19, said Mkhize.

He further warned people that when they start visiting their friends and family, they should try and limit the number of people and then interact with the same people rather than many small groups of different people.

"Encourage your group to limit who they are interacting with to keep everyone's risk low.

"When you go out in public, continue to protect yourself by wearing a mask and washing or sanitize your hands frequently. Do this before and after eating, before and after entering a store, after touching a pet, after touching door handles, elevator buttons, or things that may have been touched by others," he added.

Gauteng acting MEC for Health, Jacob Mamabolo said everyone must wear a mask that covers both nose and mouth and urge people to ask others who come to their houses to wear a mask.

"Remember the only way you are protected is if the people around you wear a mask" said Mamabolo.
