Gauteng Province's mass COVID-19 vaccination programme is gaining momentum with residents coming out in large numbers to register and get vaccinated with the lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine.
On Monday, 5 July 2021, the provincial government launched the COVID-19 Mobile Vaccination Drive to ramp up the vaccination programme in Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and Johannesburg.
The vaccination has also open for law enforcement officers and other security personnel. Also, the registration and vaccination process for 50–59-year-olds has begun.
This will be followed by people working in key economic sectors such as mining, manufacturing and the taxi industry.
Meanwhile the vaccination programme for teachers and support staff has entered its final week.
Government urges all teachers who have not yet received their injections to go to vaccination sites and get vaccinated as soon as possible.
As of 1 July 2021, 629 134 people have been registered on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). A total of 736 315 people have been vaccinated in the province as of 4 July 2021.
All public vaccinations sites in the province accepts walk-ins of all eligible groups whether they are registered on the EVDS or not.
According to scientists, COVID-19 vaccines remain highly effective in preventing the severe diseases even with the current Delta variant infections, they provide the best chance of reducing new infections, severe illness, and hospitalization.
Government calls on all residents to get vaccinated when their turn comes and minimize the spread of the virus and flatten the curve through compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions.
