The morning started off with select musical performances from Chamber Ochestra of Johannesburg, The Real One's choir, Africa Umoja and the South African Police Services marching band at the opening to legislature in Brixton Multipurpose Centre.
The day long proceedings kicked off with a police parade. Gauteng Legislature speaker, Ntombi Mekgwe set the tone for the day in a comfortable mint kaftan dress.
Mekgwe welcomed Gauteng Premier, David Makhura who is now known for his annual Nigerian inspired suits, Premier Makhura is wearing a navy-blue suit which includes an Isiagu top which is kaftan shirt and is usually worn with trousers and traditional cap which a symbol that is intended for high-ranking Igbo men from Eastern Nigeria. The Igbo cap is a symbol of authority, tradition, and culture, and indicates the conferment of a chieftaincy title.
Also, in attendance is, MEC for Health, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi in a mustard saree, MEC Tasneem Motara looked breath-taking in flowing ballerina dress.
Among the high-profile dignitaries that graced the opening of the legislature were mayors of municipalities, as well as diplomatic representatives.
Most of the Legislature's male members were dressed in traditional black suits, white shirts and ties.
Before the proceedings, members of the media were given a three-minute photo session in the house.
