​67-year-old Kedisaletse Mofube is an outgoing chairperson of the Johannesburg Older Persons Forum who is nearing the end of her five-year term. She made the announcement during the Older Persons Amendment Bill public hearing that was held at the Johannesburg Old Chamber at Civic Centre on Sunday, 10 September 2023.
Mofube continues to be active, energetic and supportive which motivates older persons in the forum.

She is also a founder of Vuk’uzenzele Pimville Older Persons Club in Soweto, and a Treasurer in the Gauteng Older Persons Forum.

A BCom Degree graduate with business management, communications, and customer service certificates says she will continue supporting the forum as a member.

“After years of positive contributions in the corporate world. I had an opportunity to chair the Johannesburg Older Persons Forum, where I performed well and also became the Provincial Treasurer,” explained Mofube.

“I grew up that time when it was normal for women to stay at home and raise children, while men were encouraged to go to school and work. However, this did not discourage me as I always knew what I wanted to be, which was to be an Economist, because at that time there was no Black female representation,” she said.

Instead, Mofube ended up working for Nedbank in the early nineties and climbing up the corporate world ladder to become the only Black female Internal Auditor during her time.

She said for a woman to be collaborating with only men it was difficult, but she managed, to an extent that Nedbank began to realise that it can hire women because of the potential she was showing and her positive contributions.

Mofube said what the government lacks currently is intergovernmental relations in the province. “We need more Departments to work together and come on board on issues affecting the elderly such as housing and poverty as NPOs are struggling to complete the process, therefore it will be great to be part of us, departments such as Human Settlement and Agriculture”, said Mofube.

Her message to upcoming women in leadership is that they must give their all and ensure the work is done. She further alluded to the importance of being passionate and committed. She also encouraged women to be role models to the younger generations. Mofube says she will now focus on training NPOs that are funded by GDSD and who are struggling with leadership and management of the organizations and train them to function effectively without wasting state resources.
