Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has promised that his administration will never surrender young people to nyaope and drugs but will fight to the bitter end to defend them. Lesufi was addressing residents of Eldorado Park during Ntirhisano, a Gauteng Provincial Government outreach programme held at Evangelistic Ministries Church on Tuesday.
Lesufi said plans are ongoing to avail a farm by provincial government that will serve as a six-months rehabilitation program, “Already we have 57 000 parents who wish to enrol their children. The Department of Social Development and Health will spearhead the fight against substance abuse while law enforcement agencies will focus on drug lords. We want to make drugs a thing of the past”.He added that in most crime scenes, three things are involved, it is a car, gun and combination of drugs and alcohol.Lesufi further said, “One of the measures we are considering fighting crime in our province is to increase the budget of the Department of Community Safety from R500 million to R800 million so that the department can procure state of the art equipment, buy more vehicles and employ more police officers”.
