Gauteng Premier David Makhura has been appointed Dr Darion Barclay as the Head of Department for Roads and Transport.
Dr Barclay is a highly accomplished and astute executive with 25 years of experience in the private and public sectors including public entities. He joins the Department from the Gauteng Office of the Premier where he worked as the DDG: Corporate Management responsible for the Strategic, Financial, Operational and Administrative functions.
He has served in various leadership roles where he was responsible for providing strategic leadership to achieve government service delivery objectives and ensuring the transformation and modernisation of the public service.
Dr Barclay has held various management positions in institutions such as the Aegis Insurance Company; Mining Qualifications Authority; national Department of Human Settlements and Technikon Sa, among others.
He obtained a Master of Technology (M-Tech) in Public Management from Unisa, and, later a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy in Public Governance from the University of Johannesburg.
