With the coronavirus still raging in many parts of the country, the Gauteng Provincial Command Council has warned residents to obey COVID-19 regulations as the number of new infections continue to increase in the province.

Member of the Premier's Advisory Council, Professor Bruce Mellado has this morning during the weekly Command Council media briefing sent a warning to Gauteng residents on the spread of infections in the province.

"The overall mobility is quite high in all districts in the province and has been increasing steadily and it is now at similar levels compared to the second wave," said Professor Mellado

He said as of 3 June, the province had 16 hotspots with 465 668 confirmed cases and these are located in Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng.

He said the overall risk of infection in the province was very high and that the number of hot spots in a week has increased.

"The hotspots are growing, and the most active cases are in Tshwane (Pretoria Industrial) and Krugersdorp central. Sedibeng has the highest risk amongst the five Districts.

"The situation in the three Sedibeng sub-districts continues to be troubling. Clear indications of sustained increase in the risk, where Midvaal has the highest risk Emfuleni and Lesedi are also high risk.

"This is also a source of concern because while small, the risk in Tshwane and Johannesburg are clearly increasing," said Professor Mellado.
