The Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi joined a centenarian Sarah Naude who celebrated 102 years in Toekomsrus on Saturday.
"I am very happy to celebrate your birthday with you today. It is amazing to rub shoulders with people who reach this milestone. I would like to commend your family for taking good care of you, because some families tend to mistreat elders of your age. All they care about is their pension money, but it's not been the case with this family. We should all respect the elders so that God can add more days to our lives", the MEC said.
Naude expressed her gratitude about the gesture before cutting of the cake. She said, "I am happy and grateful to what you have done for me today, it is a nice surprise. Please continue showing others this love and ensure there is no division amongst you. Once again thank you very much for the wonderful surprise".
Mokgethi handed over a blanket and toiletries to Naude. She then proceeded to Mohlakeng Old Age Home to wrap-up the celebration of the day with the elderly at the centre.
