On September 18, 2024, Acting MEC Faith Mazibuko for Roads and Transport formed part of an oversight visit by the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) to the R82 Road project in Sedibeng.
The R82 Road project is a vital infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity, facilitate economic growth to enhance mobility and support agricultural development in the Sedibeng District municipality.
The visit is part of the week-long NCOP Provincial Week Programme, held under the theme “Confronting the Challenges Facing the Timely Delivery of Viable Public Infrastructure to Communities.” These are aimed evaluating project's progress and identify the challenges hindering developments. As part of the NCOP's mandate to oversee provincial matters, the visit provided an opportunity for council members to engage directly with stakeholders and assess the on-ground realities.
During the visit, Acting MEC Mazibuko emphasized the importance of timely project completion and the role of infrastructure in boosting local economies.
"This project is not just about road construction; it represents an investment in the future of Sedibeng," the Acting MEC stated. "We are here to ensure that any obstacles are addressed promptly, allowing us to meet our deadlines and expectations." NCOP members also toured various segments of the project, observing ongoing construction activities.
Discussions focused on the challenges faced, including resource allocation, project management issues, and environmental considerations. Members expressed a commitment to working collaboratively with provincial and local authorities to find lasting solutions.
