The Department's Public Transport Inspectorate Unit (PTIU) on Tuesday, 19 September 2023, arrested two suspects for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle following a routine stop and search operation.
Officials had flagged a white Datsun Go and following a thorough search, it was discovered the vehicle had a false number plate affixed. Upon further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle was reported stolen in Germiston in April 2023.
The vehicle was taken to the Vereeniging Vehicle Identification Services (VIS) for further investigation.
Both suspects were subsequently arrested and later detained at the De Deur SAPS. They were charged for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The interventions by the PTIU is part of the provincial government's elevated priorities aimed at tackling crime, vandalism and lawlessness.
PTIU is mainly tasked with ensure effective law enforcement, enhance and improve visibility and active involvement in matters related to violence in the public transport sector
