Department of Health 2024/11/11 - 22:00
As the country gears up for the implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI), the Gauteng Department of Health is working tirelessly to ensure that Primary Healthcare Centres (CHCs) and hospitals meet the Ideal Clinic and Hospital standards required for inclusion in the NHI.
To date, all 22 PHCs in Gauteng have been inspected by the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) and are certified for a period of four years. In addition, 14 hospitals that have undergone inspection are also certified and meet the Ideal Hospital standards for the next four years.
Furthermore, the Department is actively implementing plans to ensure that hospitals that are yet to be inspected by the OHSC, meet the requirements in line with the regulations.
Additionally, the Forensic Pathology Service facilities are inspected every two years according to the regulation relating to management of human remains. Currently, all facilities meet the compliance status in line with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA). Out of the 11 FPS facilities, 6 are awaiting re-issuing of certificate of compliance.
This key milestone demonstrates the Department's commitment to ensuring that all public healthcare facilities meet the necessary standards for accreditation and compliance with the NHI. These efforts are crucial in realizing the universal access to quality healthcare services for all the residents of Gauteng.
