Men young men are now coming forward to vaccinate. According to the data from the Department of Health, the male turnup at vaccination sites has increased from 43% to 44.5%.

Earlier this month, the provincial government expressed concerns about the low number of people aged 60 and older, and men in general, who were not being vaccinated due to hesitancy.

"We have seen an increase since last week Friday as more men are taking the jab. We have an increase of 1.3% for male vaccination. This has pushed our numbers to an average of 44.5%. Vaccinations for women stand at 55.5%," Gauteng Premier David Makhura said on Wednesday.

Speaking during his visit to Zwartkops Raceway (R55) drive-through vaccination, Premier Makhura commended all young men as more of them are coming to vaccinate.

The province unveiled this as Pretoria's first COVID-19 vaccination drive-through site earlier in the month. To date, over 5000 people have been vaccinated at the site, with 500 vaccines being administered daily.

The Premier said the province is looking at increasing vaccinations site where men can access the jab. These include workplaces, taxi ranks, factories and shebeens.

Already, the provincial government, working with social partners is on a drive to expand vaccination sites across the province to ensure that no eligible persons are left out.

Makhura said government is considering offering incentives to residents, particularly men, to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

He made a call to the public particularly students to come in numbers to get their jab at SABC in Auckland on Thursday,26 August 2021.

"We still have a summit to climb. We have 11 million adults in Gauteng, we have fully vaccinated 1.1 million of these adults and we still have a long way to go. The numbers are increasing steadily to date, 50 – 59 year old's are turning up, 35 – 49 have been the best responsive age group.

"We still want to reach 100 000 vaccinations a day, we are currently at standing at 70 000. We hope every site doubles its numbers so we can reach this target," he added.
