The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport led a meeting on roads and transport issues affecting the City of Ekurhuleni and its intention for collaborative efforts. The meeting took place at the Benoni Customer Care Centre on Tuesday, 01 April 2025.
At intergovernmental meeting, MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela was joined by City of Ekurhuleni MMC of Roads and Transport Management, Cllr Mr Andile Mngwevu and MMC for Community Safety, Ald Sizakele Masuku.
Issues of discussion included funding for road construction and maintenance, the restoration of traffic signals and street-lights as well as joint road safety efforts. The collaboration is expected to yield improved service delivery to communities.
Speaking on the sidelines, MEC Diale-Tlabela highlighted the importance of collaboration and providing support to the city. “We are meeting both the MMC’s about road safety programmes for the City as well as collaboration for us as a province and general service delivery issues, on roads and transport infrastructure development in the City. It is important for us to collaborate and also give municipalities the necessary support they need and (also) see where we can align and provide quality services to our communities”.
On the previous day - Monday, 31 March 2025, the MEC had met with officials from the City of Johannesburg on a range of issues including key roads, transport and community safety areas that require urgent attention.
