It's now in full swing.
Government has taken the COVID-19 vaccination drive to the City of Tshwane.
The Ministry in the Presidency, Gauteng Department Roads and Transport and the City of Tshwane partnered to conduct a Mobile Vaccination Drive at the Bosman Station on Tuesday, 24 August 2021.
Deputy Minister in the Presidency Ms Thembi Siweya and MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo, City of Tshwane MMC for Roads and Transport Ms Dikeledi Selowa, were joined by the provincial taxi leadership to conduct an inspection of the pop-up vaccination site at the intermodal facility.
Since its launch in City of Ekurhuleni earlier in the month, the drive has served to encourage both minibus taxi operators and commuters to register and take their vaccination on site.
Taxi ranks have since been regarded as strategic sites to drive vaccination programme, to have more people vaccinated.
Speaking of the visit, MEC Mamabolo said "we came here so that we can conduct oversight, also promote and drive the vaccination programme. Knowing that in Gauteng we have a huge population, we must work very hard to increase or ramp up the number of people taking the vaccine. It is important and we must also help bringing education that clarify people about vaccination".
"We are really pleased by the overwhelming positive response we are getting from drivers knowing that the trend has been that men were hesitant to take the vaccine. With this programme coming to taxi ranks, we are now seeing men coming out which is very positive and to that extent we are pushing back the anti-vaccine mentality" added the MEC.
Officials from the Gauteng Department of Health were also on hand to respond to concerns and issues raised by taxi drivers and commuters around the vaccine.
MEC Mamabolo also heaped praise on MMC Dikeledi Selowa who got her jab on site. Said the MEC "we are very much pleased with the City of Tshwane and congratulate the MMC for taking the vaccine at the taxi rank. This is leading by example and we are really are pleased, it shows that it is the same vaccine".
The Bosman taxi rank is a strategic transport node, a key pillar in transporting people within and outside the province including to the neighbouring states.
NB: Pop-up vaccination sites are being activated in many parts of Gauteng to improve accessibility and increase the number of those who are vaccinated. #IChooseVaccination
