Athletic Club Launches Training for Department Officials

Department of Social Development 2024/09/15 - 22:00

On Saturday, 07 September 2024, the Gauteng Department of Social Development Athletic Club, in collaboration with the Johannesburg Harriers Athletic Club, introduced a training run for Departmental officials as part of a workplace wellness initiative.

Despite windy weather, officials from various regions participated in the session at Thaba Eco Village in the south of Johannesburg.

Participants could choose between a 10 KM and 21 KM route. Experienced runners like Maphuti Ashinthwela Monyamane motivated the officials with tips on improving their running performance.

Warm-ups and exercises were conducted before the start, with runners reminded not to overexert themselves. Water stations with refreshments and fruits were available throughout.

Welile Sihewula, Secretary of the Gauteng Department of Social Development Athletic Club, was pleased with the turnout, noting it was the first training session since the club's formation. He encouraged more staff members to join.

Sihewula thanked everyone who participated and extended an invitation to senior officials to join the club. Joe Sigela, a top runner from Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Care Centre, also attended, accompanying his colleagues.
